People

Whispurr has no directory and no phone-number lookup. You connect with people directly: by showing a QR code, sending a link, or finding each other nearby. Nobody joins a chat with you until they accept.

Ways to connect

Bob connects with Alex by QR code, invite link or nearby discovery. Alex accepts, and their chat begins. Alex says yes. Nothing starts until Alex accepts. Then it’s a private chat between two phones.

Checking emojis means you both compare four emojis on screen before the chat is saved, which proves you're connected to the right person. Requests from contact cards and Start a Chat invites skip that check, so accept them only if you expected to hear from that person.

Contacts

Each persona has its own contacts, on the persona page under Contacts. Contacts never cross between personas. The list has three parts:

Tap someone you share chats with to see their profile: when they last sent a message, the chats you share and, if you have a one-to-one chat, a Call button.

Contact cards

A contact card is a reusable QR code and link that lets people save you and send you a chat request, even while you're offline. A card shows your persona's name. You can have several cards, for example one for a conference badge and one for your website, and revoke any of them.

Share your contact

  1. On the persona page, open Contacts and tap Share My Contact.
  2. The first time, tap Create Contact Card. Add an optional label that only you see, then tap Create.
  3. Show the QR code, or use Copy Link or Share. Links look like whispurr.app/c/….

Revoke a card

Under Your Cards, open a card's menu and choose Revoke. People who already saved you keep your contact, but no one new can use that card to reach you.

Save someone else's card

  1. On iPhone, open Contacts and tap Scan. On any device, you can also open their whispurr.app/c/ link.
  2. Choose which of your personas knows them, then tap Save as that persona.

Chat requests

A chat request is how you start talking to someone whose card you saved. They see your name and an optional note, and decide whether to accept.

Send a request

  1. In Contacts, tap a saved contact.
  2. Add a note saying how you know each other (optional, up to 280 characters).
  3. Tap Send Request. The chat opens straight away and starts syncing once they accept.

Answer a request

Requests appear under Chat Requests with the sender's name and note. Choose Accept to open the chat, Decline, or Block. Declining sends nothing back to the sender.

Block or delete a contact

Touch and hold a saved contact for Block, Unblock or Delete Contact. A deleted contact can be saved again from their card.

Start a Chat invites

A one-time invite starts a new chat with one person. It works even if you go offline: the chat appears once they join.

  1. On the persona's Chats tab, tap New Chat › Start a Chat.
  2. Let the other person scan the QR code, or use Copy Invite or Share to send the link. Links look like whispurr.app/i/….
  3. On their device, they tap New Chat › Join a Chat and scan, or paste the link and tap Join. Opening the link works too.

Each invite works once and expires after 7 days.

Invite someone to an existing chat

  1. In the chat, tap its name at the top to open the chat's sections, then Members.
  2. Tap Invite and choose QR Code / Share Invite or Nearby Person.
  3. Keep the screen open while they join. The invite works once, for 15 minutes.
  4. Compare the four emojis on both screens. Tap Match if they're the same, or Don't Match if not.

Nearby Users

Find people in the same room over Bluetooth, without the internet.

  1. On the Chats tab, tap Nearby Users, then Enable Bluetooth if asked.
  2. People who also have the screen open appear under Nearby people. Tap Invite.
  3. They see your name and choose Accept or Dismiss.
  4. Check that you both see the same emojis, then tap Emojis Match — Save Chat.

Your name and picture are visible to nearby people only while the Nearby Users screen is open. Discovery stops when you leave the screen or the app.
